Adventure Itinerary: A Day in the Grand Canyon
The Briefing: Departure into the Unknown
The journey begins at 9:00 AM at the Chalet de la Maline parking lot. Here, you’ll meet your guide.
After a run-through of the route and the distribution of your technical gear, we head straight for the action. Feel the excitement build: today, you aren't just looking at the canyon; you are conquering it.
The Approach: In the Footsteps of Martel
To earn the river, you must first walk its rim. We follow a section of the legendary Blanc-Martel trail.
- Duration: Approximately 45 minutes.
- The Challenge: An immersive hike with your gear on your back (approx. 9 kg).
- The View: Overlooking the Verdon, you’ll witness the raw power of the Couloir Samson and La Turbine rapids. This is where the sheer scale of the canyon truly hits you.
The Navigation: Alone in the Deep
Once at the water’s edge, the magic begins.
After a safety briefing and an introduction to packrafting techniques, you’ll glide onto the famous turquoise waters.
Did you know? The section we explore is completely inaccessible by foot. Packrafting grants you a rare privilege: absolute solitude beneath dizzying cliffs.
The route is a perfect blend of adrenaline and contemplation:
- Playful Rapids: Accessible thrills to spice up the descent.
- Calm Reaches: Moments to look up and feel humbled by stone walls rising 700 meters high.
- Lunch Break: A well-deserved picnic on a secret beach, accessible only by water.
The Hidden Gem: The Artuby Canyon
The highlight of the afternoon awaits.
We veer off to explore the Artuby Canyon, a spectacular tributary where time stands still. We paddle up this wild branch to discover unique geological formations—a true sanctuary of biodiversity far from civilization.
The Ascent: The Final Push
Our navigation ends at the Estellier footbridge. Once the rafts are deflated and tucked into your backpacks, we begin the return to the "world above."
- The Climb: A 400-meter vertical gain to reach the Chalet de la Maline.
- The Effort: About 1 hour of physical hiking, rewarded by breathtaking panoramas of the path you just traveled.
