A Concentrated Taste of Adventure Close to Castellane

The Haut Jabron Canyon is a true limestone pearl. Here, the water has sculpted the rock so deeply that you will occasionally feel as though you are exploring underground. The work of erosion in the Jabron stream is spectacular.

Although the route is short, it is extremely complete: you will discover your very first rope abseils (rappelling), down natural waterslides carved by the river currents, and attempt fun cliff jumps (never mandatory). This is our number one choice for families and groups of friends wishing to discover the activity together.

The obstacles encountered throughout this gorge remain minor. If you are not afraid of getting your helmet wet, you will conquer 3 successive rock slides and a few deep-pool jumps up to 5 meters high. Each vertical drop is a great opportunity to safely learn basic rope maneuvers, such as independent abseiling or utilizing safety guide-ropes (mains courantes).

The river descent itself lasts about 1.5 hours, to which you should add a 30-minute approach hike, a 30-minute return hike, and gear fitting time.

Trip Itinerary & Logistics

1. Meeting Point : Rendez-vous at our main base or directly on-site near the charming village of La Bâtie-de-Peyroules, located just 15 minutes away from Castellane. Please note that we do not provide transport vehicles for canyoning activities.
   For Canyoning, the meeting point is directly on-site. This is where you will meet Alex, who will be your guide."

2. The Launch : Meet up with Alex, your professional guide. After gear fitting, we embark on an easy, shaded 30-minute approach hike to reach the canyon entrance.
3. 1.5 Hours of Fresh Air, Fun, and Adrenaline : We begin with a short aquatic walk before quickly reaching the first major natural waterslide, measuring 4 meters long. Soon after, the limestone walls tighten dramatically around us, giving the spectacular impression of being underground. Just superb!
4. This deeply encased hallway leads us straight to the second famous waterslide, known as "L'Homme Obus" (The Human Cannonball). At 6 meters long, this slide gives you a fun little momentum at the very end, which might plunge you underwater for a brief second or two. Less adventurous participants can easily choose to bypass this obstacle using a secure guide-rope.
5. The final section holds plenty of surprises, including a first optional jump from 4 meters high, followed by a second optional jump from 5 meters. One last splash, and we are done!
6. The Return : We enjoy a 30-minute return hike—the perfect amount of time to share your best memories of the descent.

Important Prerequisites & Gear Info

1. Information needed : Please make sure to communicate the height, weight, and shoe size of each participant beforehand so we can prepare your custom neoprene gear package.
2. Footwear Notice : It is absolutely mandatory to wear sturdy, closed shoes. We strongly recommend a pair of old running shoes or trainers with laces that will go into the water. Please avoid flimsy water shoes or aqua slippers, as they do not provide enough grip or protection for mountain canyoning.
